Geoturism Challenge 2009
Rio da Prata competes to win the National Geographic Geotourism Challenge for 2009
The Geotourism Challenge for 2009, held by National Geographic, rewards the best initiatives of geotourism worldwide. Rio da Prata has entered with the case study entitled:
Rio da Prata: Redefining tourism in Brazil`s Mid-west
The purpose of Challenge is to identify and give greater visibility to the innovative actions of individuals and/or organizations, which are contributing to the environment in a meaningful way through the management of tourist destinations. It looks to award operations that are good examples of Geoturismo, i.e., tourism that co-exists with the natural, cultural, historical, and aesthetical characteristics of a particular location.
The Director of Sustainability, Luiza Coelho Spengler recognizes the importance of participation in initiatives like this for the Rio da Prata farm. "The challenge contributes to the awareness that tourism, together with environmental conservation, is an activity essential to regional development." she says.
All submissions can be viewed and commented-on online. The public is invited to give their opinion and suggestions on each case study.
From July on, the public will choose the best organization by voting online at the site:
