"Lagoa Misteriosa", which translates as Mysterious Lagoon, is a lake at the bottom of a doline, a type of geological formation that looks like a hole, and it is all surrounded by riparian vegetation.
The tour starts with an interpretative trail through the gallery forest, with observation of the rich diversity of flora and fauna of the region. The trail leads to a viewpoint and 70 meters of stairways that access the lake of blue water at the bottom.
The Mysterious Lagoon is impressive for its incredible depth and water transparency, divers reported that at 30 meters it is still possible to see the trees surrounding the lake. During the winter months, visibility reaches 40 meters.
The Snorkeling is exciting. At the depth of 8-meter the lagoon divides itself in two tunnels, each one with about 10 meters in diameter, one of them descends vertically to over 240 meters of depth.
The vision of the two blue abysses that form the bottom of the lake is impressive. The vertical rock walls, the fallen trunks, the deposits of white sand, the golden branches with leaves, the small fish that glow in the light beam, all this transforms the Mysterious Lagoon in an unique scenario.
When snorkeling the sensation you have is as if you were floating on water, as if you were flying.
The equipments used for the snorkeling are mask, snorkel and life jacket. A delicious lunch at the main house of Recanto Ecológico Rio da Prata nicely complements the tour.
Note: The tour is temporarily suspended for visitation. The Mysterious Lagoon is in the process of environmental licensing.
